Which version are you using? from CVS?

This means that the LCD-Linux driver isn't part of the distribution.
Maybe due to the fact that the last release of lcd4linux is quite old....

You may want to try the CVS version. If your first problem persists,
maybe some of the I2C guys can help... (are there any I2C guys listening
here?)
