Looks like aeither a wiring or a timing fault.

Their web site seems to be unavailable at the moment, so I can't check 
your wiring. Can you send me a wiring description or a diagram?

I'm pretty shure that it's 8-bit (otherwise you won't use control lines 
of your parport, but data lines only.

This should be the startup splash screen, but with destroyed chars.
