Which "windows versioN" do you compare? There is no windows version of 
lcd4linux. Maybe you're talking about any other windows software.

I'm quite shure that you're using a wrong wiring. Take a look at 
"README.HD44780" and compare your pin wiring.

looks fine. If you get it to work, you should change the "Port" entry in 
lcd4linux.conf back to "/dev/parport0", the ppdev() driver is the 
cleaner solution.
