No; I know that one of the characters that LCDd/lcdproc uses has changed 
appearance, and the max baud is now 19200, but otherwise, I believe it is 
functionally similar.

Like I said, it works about 1 in 20 tries, so I THINK it just isn't getting 
initialized correctly most of the time.

I believe my friend has a 1.0 CFontz 634, I'll see if I can try that one 
with lcd4linux to see if it initializes correctly.
