[lcd4linux] Detecting if an LCD is available

Hi,

If I start lcd4linux on a machine without an LCD display, I'm getting
lots of these messages:

Nov 29 12:05:18 foo LCD4Linux[16306]: HD44780: timeout waiting for busy flag on controller 1 (85)

That's why I'm searching a way to detect if an LCD is available or
not, so I can prevent starting lcd4linux on machines without an LCD.

These should disappear after a while, with a message reading
"deactivating busy-flag checking" or so.

I'm afraid there is no *reliable* way to detect if a display is
connected to the parallel port.
