Well, shame on me, but at the moment there's very little time for lcd4linux. My son (who is getting 14 months these days, funny how time flies!) and my real-life job is eating all my time, and I try to cath at least a few hours of sleep every day (I know this is wasted time, but... on the other hand, there may be some good drugs outta there :-) I don't think that the current CVS/SVN is ready for a new release (maybe I'm wrong, and I should follow the "release early, release often" advice) Can you tell me what exactly is the problem with GCC-4.1? Maybe I could just fix these bugs in the stable branch.... > On a side note, don't you think it would be a good idea to close the > list for non-subscribers, that would stop the big amount of spam coming > over it. Hmmm.... I think this is the same question as with the wiki: I think if I close it, there will be far less traffic (it's already (too) low traffic I think) Speaking for myself, if I want to report a bug or something similar to a project, and I need to be subscribed, I wont. But as always, YMMV. bye, Michael (who got up at 5am this morning, visiting a customer, returned home at 9pm, *not* seeing his son, going to bed now, to get up at 5am tomorrow, visiting another customer) -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |

At the moment the mailing list is the only important thing hosted at SourceForge, which I want to get rid of, too (the hosting, not the mailing lists) For the moment it would be great if you could set up the list archive at gmane, and probably even import the archives from sourceforge (I read something there that such an import should be possible). bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |

Hi again, I am making this two emails because there's some things that I think could greatly improve the visibility and accessibility of the project. Most of these were related to me just getting to know it :-) 1. Who can post to the mailing list? Michael Reinelt schrieb: >> On a side note, don't you think it would be a good idea to close the >> list for non-subscribers, that would stop the big amount of spam coming >> over it. > Hmmm.... I think this is the same question as with the wiki: I think if > I close it, there will be far less traffic (it's already (too) low > traffic I think) > > Speaking for myself, if I want to report a bug or something similar to a > project, and I need to be subscribed, I wont. But as always, YMMV. But is the mailing list the right place for this? First, there are trackers at sourceforge and at bublix.org which are much easier for reporting and handling bugs that a mailing list. Second, you don't get the replies to the list-report if you are not subscribed. 2. Mailing list archive Currently, I cannot see the mail messages at sourceforge. Maybe it would be a good idea to also use an alternative archiving service. There's a great one for archiving open source mailing lists and viewing them, called GMANE, I am sure you heard about it. You can publish the mailing list at gmane using http://gmane.org/subscribe.php As group name, you could use gmane.comp.sysutils.lcd4linux. That would be on the same name hierarchy as lcdproc, or some other sub-name of gmane.comp. Example Views: * List page: http://dir.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.devel * Frame view: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.linux.gentoo.devel 3. Double bug trackers As the trac-tracker is currently used for development, I suggest closing the sourceforge-trackers since two points for having bugs reported or searching bugs might not be wise. You cannot close the trackers, but hide them from the public in sourceforge at Admin -> Tracker -> Tracker Administration -> *tracker* -> Update preferences -> Visibility of this Tracker -> Not visible (hidden) 4. SVN web view not working ... but I guess you know that already :-) Bye, Robert |

Hi, nice to see some activity on the list again. Maybe I missed the reply, but what about the two ideas I uttered here? (see below). Thanks a lot, Robert Robert Buchholz wrote: > 1. Michael Reinelt schrieb: >>> Currently, I cannot see the mail messages at sourceforge. > Well, I think ther *is* a mailing list archive at SF... You are right. Back when I first wrote my email, the mailman archive was not searchable (and it not right now), but I see that the "forums" like archive did improve a lot (concerning searching). So the issue I had with the existing archives are smaller now, I have to agree (still, I love the frame view of GMANE, but maybe that's just me :-) >>> Maybe it would be a good idea to also use an alternative archiving >>> service. Do you plan to abandon sf completely (as in 'remove the project')? > For the moment it would be great if you could set up the list archive a= t > gmane, and probably even import the archives from sourceforge (I read > something there that such an import should be possible). The list has to/should be signed up by the list admin, but it's just a small form. The imports are possible with the digests provided by mailman at https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/lcd4linux-devel Regards, Rob |

Maybe it can be reached on the filesystem somehow? Robert |

This is a very simple fix... What do you think, should we release a new version with just this patch applied, or would it be sufficient to provide this patch for download? The latter would be far less work :-) bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |
