Wow - thanks for the quick response. When I wrote the mail I didn't notice it was to a mailing list and am now embarrassed at having pretty much written:- 'Hey - I want to write a driver - tell me what to do' :) Anyway - the LCD is driven from the serial port. There is only windows (well DOS) support atm - I have a tech spec sheet so I will dive in and see where I end up :) Thanks again Harry On Fri, 16 Sep, paul kamphuis wrote: > Hi Harry, > > That looks like a nice rack mounted server. :-) > Where to start? > try to find more information on this LCM-100 display. how is it > connected? Hi Harry, That looks like a nice rack mounted server. :-) Where to start? try to find more information on this LCM-100 display. how is it connected? How is it supported right now? then you take the code of one of the existing drivers that is closest to the LCM-100, adapt it and insert it as a new display driver Sounds simple, doesn't it :-) User space programming is probably sufficient knowledge to do it. kind regards, Paul Harry Mills wrote: >Hi, > >I have a couple of rack mount servers here. Hi, I have a couple of rack mount servers here. I have been tasked with the job of getting the LCD to work. The machine in question is: http://tinyurl.com/bmpko I have some docs on the LCD setup - looks like it is driven by a PIC and the model is called the LCM-100. Can't find any reference to it anywhere. As it is quite a nice little unit I would like to write a driver for this LCD to get it to work withlcd4linux. I am a c programmer but mostly in user space.... Where do i start :) Regards Harry Mills |

I would have thought that you have > to have 'out'-pin for E??!? You're right. There's been some confusion about the SELECT and SLCTIN lines in the past, that's why I changed the signal name SELECT to SLCTIN (SELECT does still work, but is deprecated). I too think that there's a mistake in the schematics. geronet? you did post this one, IIRC. And you did build a dual display. Hello! I just happened to bump in to your site. It was interesting reading. I have been planing something like that for some time now. I went quickly through your pages and I look through your page http://ssl.bulix.org/projects/lcd4linux/wiki/HD44780 There was one thing that puzzeled me.. Maybe you can guide me.. On that page you have good table of pin orders of prallel port. And I was just comparing it to the picture of two displays on one bus (https://ssl.bulix.org/projects/lcd4linux/attachment/wiki/HD44780/multiple.png?format=raw) Well now.. cut straight to the point: - LPT-port should have pin 13 as output (according to your table and other sources) and still on that picture it seems taht second displays E ('enable' I assume) seems to go to pin 13 of the D25. I would have thought that you have to have 'out'-pin for E??!? Similarry you have connected the E-pin of the first display to the LPT-pin 1 that is according to your table 'out'-pin. So please correct if I am wrong since I am planing to build your system any day soon.. Thanx to you all for the great site and your work! Tomi |
