Hello Nils,

first many thanks for your LCD support for the linux
system.I have seen it and love it :-) ok so i run to
our Shop "Conrad" here in germany.

I want to realise my DSL and my ISDN to see the actual
status on my LCD Screen.

I got my 40x4 Display include LED Backlight( please
see Data Sheet attached).

So i have done the data connections ( D1 - D7 ) like
you wrote in your Dokumentation i also connected all
other Pins like R/W...Voo...Vee...RS and so on. All i
have connected.

But on the EN Pin (Enable Signal)i have a big Problem.
My Display have two IC's to Display annything. So one
IC for the first 2 colums and the second IC for the
colum 3 and 4. So when i connect the Pin 1 from the
parallel port to both Enable Signals on my Display i
got the same Data displayed on colum 1 and colum 3.

I have tried all positions, when i configure colum 3
position 20 i got no data displayed. When i configure
colum 1 position 10 the result was two times displayed
in colum 1 and in colum 3.

I have talk to the manufacture of the Display here in
Germany. He told me the same.

YES--> YOU GET THE SAME DATA DISPLAYED; BECAUSE I HAVE
CONNECTET THE TWO IC PINS (ENABLE SIGNAL) ON ONE
SOURCE.

He told me the used IC only can process 2 colums. So
they have integrated 2 IC' for 4 colums in one Display.

He told me i only can use the colum 3 and 4 seperatly,
when i get a second EN (Enable Signal) and set the
Flag from Low to high for each displayed Information
on the Display to handle the positions between the two
IC's they manage the display.

Please Nils can you help in this case ?

The Hitachi standard controler only control 40x2 characters,
so to control more lines the usually use another controler...
For example the LCDProc module let you use the other
controler (or another lcd) using a one, two or three
diferent eneble lines... the code is easy you only need to
activate diferents lines when you want to talk to the first
    or the second controler.
I can programm this code, but i can`t test&debug it because
    my lcd is a 16x2 :(
