Hi and thanks for your interest in LCD-Linux. Unfortunately the project is not scheduled for inclusion in the Linux kernel mainstream. As you have read there was some discussion around 2 years ago but even those ideas about rewriting the virtual console management in the kernel, never saw the light. There is probably not enough interest to modify the virtual terminal subsystem, that is vital for many other things in the kernel. The LCD-Linux project was definitely not rejected but it is unlikely that it will be included in the kernel in the near future. The LCD-Linux repository in now more than one year old since no bugs have emerged and all the HD44780 features are implemented. So there is nothing more to develop, only new ideas to implement or new drivers to write.
