[Lcd-linux] state kernel upstreaming efforts

Hello !

Searching a solution for interfacing my 4x20 character display to linux I 
found your project.
I then read the mailinglist archives and found the "Introducing the LCD-Linux 
project" thread very interesting, but the talk ended on 2010-08-04. There 
were some thoughts about restructuring linux console and vc handling, 
problems and possible solutions.
Are there any efforts that have been made ? Are there patches or repositories 
where development happens ? What problems had been faced ? What is the 
current state ?
I am very interested in this because it looks to me as very valuable 
solution.
