#47 login freeze on open port no server

This is a re-post of data from 1069689 with the
outdated information removed:

If I try to connect to a closed port or an
inaccessible IP, login window displays "Could not
connect to the server! Please make sure that a
connection to the internet is operational, and try
again." - which is fine. However, if the program tries
to access an open port on a real IP (like 8080), but
the server isn't running, the program freezes.

If this freeze can be avoided that is best. Since a
normal scenario should have the server running on the
chosen port, This is not currently high priority
especially considering the other fixes which are.
