As of now, if I have say many programs that have "vis"
in their names, then I get a long list sorted
alphabetically. Instead of sorting it alphabetically,
it should be sorted based on click-popularity. So for
example, if visual studio is the most popular program
that I use with "vis" in its name, then that should be
the default completion. It might also be better if the
default program shown is the one that starts with "vis"
or has a word that starts with "vis". It is HIGHLY
unlikely that I will start typing from the middle of a
word.

Not quite, whenever I want to watch TV, I don't type in "WinTV", just "tv", and it is way less probable that there is another program containing the string "tv" than "win". ;)

I have to agree with the originator. While there will be special cases (such as the 'WinTV' example), I think it a much more likely use case that initial substrings take precedence over intra-word substrings. Even in the one counter-example, it's unlikely too many programs will have 'tv' as a prefix.

Nevertheless, it's likely all this would get sorted out by the "popularity" weighting suggested by the originator.
