Launchy is superb. It comes really close to allowing me the speed and efficiency I had with DesQView back in the DOS era!!
My suggestion is the following:
Distinguish between the Alt-Space hotkey and a 'hotkey situation' created by a BRIEF hit of the ALt Key by itself.
Alt-space would bring up the program and do exactly what it does now. NO changes at all
A BRIEF hit on alt, would exhibit a list of TWO CHARACTER id's and a description of what they do.
You could then enter TWO CHARS (NO enter needed!) or cursor down to your choice and hit enter.
If I set up 'XL' for Excel, FF for Firefox and, say MA for Outlook Express, then hitting
Alt X L
Would immediately launch Excel
Alt F F
same flor firefox, etc.
The speed and efficiency at which you can work is
astounding, and the two-character combinations are remembered 'by your fingers' in no time!
Thank you for your attention

This would raise a problem when attempting to browse your toolbar at the top via the keyboard. Alt then F would bring up the File menu, and if this were disabled, would hinder certain peoples' "speed and efficiency".
At the moment Alt+Space F or Alt+Space E does exactly what it's supposed to, with exactly the same amount of keys as you suggest.
