I had been running a 1.X release without any problems. I upgraded to 2.0 and the program constantly crashes when I try to run launchy. I have removed and re-installed 2.0 version twice - no change in the behavior.

Windows XP Service Pack 2

The behavior is as follows. I click Launchy to start. I then press ALT+space bar to bring launchy to the foregound. Immediately MS dialog appears stating that Launchy has crashed.

I just installed version 1.25 and it runs without a problem.

I solved this problem by going into the registry and deleting ALL Launchy entries prior to re-installation of Launchy 2.0. It seems that the 1.0 uninstall does not correctly remove everything from the registry.

I have this problem as well, and I didn't have any prior versions installed.

The registry deletion really fixed it? As far as I know only the installer/uninstaller keeps information in the registry. Launchy itself doesn't use it.

FWIW, I have the same problem. Also running Win XP SP2. Problem even occurs after a reboot.

i have the same behavior. 1.25 works not 2.
i built a new machine w/o installing 1.25 and just installed 2, same behavior. It worked at first.

But I believe at some point after installing the c++ 2005 redistributable package it stopped working. Crashes on startup.

Have you tried disabling all of the plugins? You can do this by removing them from the plugins directory before starting Launchy. This will tell me if the crash is due to Launchy or one of its plugins.

I just tried your suggestion (disabling plugins). Still crashes.

v2 crashes for me on XP SP 2 while v1.25 works fine. v2 works fine on Vista and Vista sp 1.

    But what a brilliant program!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm. I installed the 2005 redistributable package on my XP SP2 machine.. but no issues cropped up. Must be something else :(

FWIW, an update on my problem. I just got a new computer (running Vista Home Premium 64). Installed version 2.12, worked great. Today I got around installing Iolo's Macro Magic which I've used for years. Version 2.12 immediately reverted to problem behavior (crashing within 2 seconds of responding to hot key). Dropped back to version 1.25, no crash. Macro Magic also responds to hot keys, so I'm guessing that something about how version 2.12 hooks the keyboard for hot keys doesn't get along with Macro Magic's method. Hope this helps pin point the problem in V2 'cause I really like the improvements.
