Tired and just want to know? That means the answer's probably going to hit you in about 15 minutes! Many people, myself included, often make breakthroughs when it's way past bedtime, or when it's the middle of the day and you *just* *want* to get *off* the *computer*, but some stupid problem's nagging you. To keep current on Slack, it's usually enough to just install the latest stable version. If you have a carnal lust for the bleeding edge, I'm sure there are ways to automatically track -current. I've never been interested in being THAT up to date, though, so I'll leave that answer to someone else. About sound: this is a problem on the 3150P as well. Actually, I think that's the way it is in Slackware in general (you have to run alsaconf or something like that and set up volumes), but the 3150P's AC97 requires that the kernel module for that device be inserted as a module with certain parameters. Mine isn't working right now, as I VERY rarely, if ever, use sound, but once you've got alsa set up with volumes above zero, you just need to add a line to rc.modules (or like I do, rc.local) inserting the module with the proper params. Ah, ya twisted my arm. This might not be something you need, but I'll post anyway, since it's something every slackware / 3150P user needs to do: modprobe snd-via82xx index=3D0 dxs-support=3D2 We should probably include this little fix in whatever packages we're looking to make.
