I tried the first workaround before posting the mail and it doesn't work. The second workaround worked well - I just had to do a couple of symlinks: liblapack.so.2.0 libcblas.so.3.0 libf77blas.so.3.0 libatlas.so.3.0 to their versions with just ".so". I started ./configure again and this time it compiled with no problems.
