Hi all,

according the information in the Translation HowTo i am writing here, that
i want to translate LAM to the Slovak language.

There are some descriptions in the translation HowTo that you already
found. If you need any help (e.g. for certain technical terms) please

I attached an empty .po file for you. When you are finished please send
me the translated .po file and also a translation for the text "Slovak
(Slovenia)" (for the login page).

The initial translation takes a lot of time. Future translations will be
much less effort. Therefore, there is no time limit etc. So you can
safely ignore the mail that I will send in a few days for the 3.6
translation upgrades.

Please let me know if there is anything where I can support you.

Please, Slovak (Slovakia) - sk-SK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovakia).
The Slovenia is similar small country, with similar language, but some
hundred kilometers at south :-) (i never meeted anyone from this country).

In one another project (claws-mail) i found as very useful, that there is
direct link on the web page to latest stable POT file.

I did quick look to PO file, yes more than 2000 string is big project,
i maintain only 4-5 bigger translations. Initial translation takes some
weeks for me. But i see potential problem with plurals. In our language we
have three plural (in gettext mean) forms and here are not used gettext's
plurals for this. The translation of the string, for example „%s group(s)
found” is translation problem, while in parentheses must be two forms and
this seems ugly. Or i will use only one plural's form, but this will be
improper and ugly too. Is any chance that this will be fixed?

I see now, that i must to setup training LAM version, to check translation
on the fly, but in my repo (debian testing) is only 3.5.0 version, can you
please confirm info from PO header, that this is for 5.0 version? In the
download section is 3.5.0 latest version only.

After i will finish my translation i will ask email address to send
translation, to don't spam this ML. with big files.

I think you can use it like a POT file. I generated it from the current
source code.

For the upgrades I always generate .po files with the new strings for
all languages. These can then be downloaded from the project page.

I can try to change these kind of strings. Can you make a list while you
are translating? Then I will check what can be done.
PHP seems to support this with ngettext().

The file I sent you is a preversion of the one for the upcoming 3.6
release. It contains 3.5 plus some new strings.

sure, empty (untranslated) PO file is technically the same as POT file,
but it is not true for (partially) translated, where are not all msgstr
items empty. And cleaning translated PO file is not easy task, especially
if wrapped strings are in it.

it is really no problem, the msggrep is the wizard's name :-)

I am writing about header of the mentioned PO file, where is:

"Project-Id-Version: LAM 0.5\n"

is it typo or mistake in code?

I have a script to generate a clean POT file from the source code.
For incremental translations this is merged with the last .po file.

Are you familiar with xgettext? I cannot help with it, only point to it,
but manpage says, that PHP is supported. I know only, that it needs file
list as input and POT is the output.

  I think you can use also Czech translation. I hope you understand
Czech as we was one country 20 years ago ;o)

nice question. I was working in Bohemia (Jihlava, 1991 - 1992), when we
had common country. But in this time i meet a lot of people, which
said, that they do not understand Slovak :-) I have family near Pelhřimov
too, where i was more times, but more than 20 years ago...

The Czech language is really problem for me, while i am sometime mixing
the Slovak and Czech terms together and this is bad for proper
translation :-D

I am loving the "Another Language" (i am not sure with this english name)
GTranslator's plugin for this, while some sentences are terrible to
understand for me. In this cases, the Czech and Russian languages are my
helpers.

Yes, i found one bug yet

msgstr "Přihlašování"

IMHO, the Logging term is about log messages, not logins.

  you're right. It's fixed in translation for LAM 3.6.0.
Thank you for the bug report (it's the first one ever - not so
good translation but so few reports).
