Laidout 0.09 Released

This is the ninth release of Laidout, which is desktop publishing software, particularly for multipage, cut and folded booklets. Still no text yet, but who needs text when pictures are worth a thousand words?

New this time around are importers for Scribus, Svg, and Passepartout files. Also the ability to pass in rudimentary commands, letting you import, reimpose, and export all from the command line, without opening up any windows.... read more

Laidout 0.08 Released

This is the eighth release of Laidout, which is desktop publishing software, particularly for multipage, cut and folded booklets. Still no text yet, but who needs text when pictures are worth a thousand words?

Version 0.08 sees the introduction of a Paper Tiler interface for making big posters out of small papers. Also there is now a PDF, Scribus, and Image export that work with varying degrees of success.... read more

Laidout 0.07 Released

This is the seventh release of Laidout, which is desktop publishing software, particularly for multipage, cut and folded booklets. Still no text yet, but who needs text when pictures are worth a thousand words?

New in this release is an improved image import dialog, and a color grabbing facility. Also, the interfaces for linear, radial, and patch gradients has been much improved.

This is the sixth release of Laidout, which is desktop publishing software, particularly for multipage, cut and folded booklets. Still no text yet, but who needs text when pictures are worth a thousand words?

New in this much delayed release is the ability to work a little more easily with small preview images, but then print the full, typically huge images. Also, there is now a fuller multiple image import dialog. The biggest news is the ability to import, place, and print out EPS files.... read more

Laidout 0.05 Released

This is the fifth release of Laidout, which is desktop publishing software, particularly for multipage, cut and folded booklets. Still no text yet, but who needs text when pictures are worth a thousand words?

The biggest news for this slightly delayed release is the ability to work with small preview images, but then print the full, typically huge images. Also, multiple image importing is a little easier now, via file lists, in which you can specify the main file, a preview file, and other settings like dpi, what page it is to go on, and even how many to try to fit on each page.... read more

The biggest news for this much delayed release is a Palette window, in which you can select a color, and have that color immediately applied to whatever you're working on. Also, Laidout now uses icons, and the splittable window system has been improved.... read more

Among the new things in this version is the ability to shear and rotate any object, which currently includes images, linear, radial, and subdividable bezier color patch gradients. The main window now sits within a split/join window which allows multiple views of the same document, while a spread editor might be in an adjacent pane.... read more

Laidout 0.01 Released

Laidout is desktop publishing software, particularly for multipage, cut and folded booklets, with page sizes that don't even have to be rectangular.

These pages are defined broadly enough to allow everything from single sheet documents to cut and folded booklets to layout on arbitrary polyhedral surfaces (sometimes known as packaging).

This version can only handle images and bezier color patch gradients, which is all one needs to lay out books of cartoons or simple photo scrapbooks!... read more
