Hello, Ive completed a simple sprite viewer and uploaded it to the ftp at /Graphics/Sprite/CharView.rar. Currently there is only one sprite to view (scorpion.) After you run the install program from the character viewer, run run the scorpion.exe file. (Its a self-extracting archive.) Leave the decompress directory at C:\ (or whatever drive you installed CharView on.) To load the scorpion sprite, just click on file->load sprite, and you should see the files scorpion.spr and scorpionSmall.spr. The animations for this sprite will be listed on the right in the combo box. Choose one and click Play to see what it is. The difference between scorpion and scorpion small is the number of frames used. They both use the same frames but scorpionSmall only uses every-other frame, if you know what I mean. Thanks, Brent |

That all sounds good but keep in mind that a very large number of people out there play the game for the combat, so if we put to great a limit on mana recovery then we could be alienating this group of player. I agree that spells should cost a good deal in mana, and I really like the idea of starting as a normal person who learns stuff on the journey. Well that's my 2 cents anyway Cheers John -----Original Message----- From: lac...@li... [mailto:lac...@li...] On Behalf Of Trimbitas Sorin Sent: Tuesday, July 29, 2003 19:24 To: lac...@li... Hi Your ideas sound great, I like the scorpion subquest this could be used to introduce an important NPC that would translate hieroglyphics for the character and also identify different magic items, I don't like games that when you find a magic item you automatically know what it is. 1 idea for the main town would be for a building set against the temple, this could house the main NPC who will set various quests for the player this is where the leader of the rebellion will be housed. I think a wall around the city would be best if this is a town still in rebellion after 300 of terror they have to have some pretty serious defenses in place both mundane and magical. Don't forget to include all the different shops in the town as well as various houses both inhabited and abandoned. I know that when I am playing games I like to find the odd abandoned house to use as my house, it makes the game more realistic for me then constantly staying in a temple or sleeping room. Can't help much on the technical end but whatever works :>) John -----Original Message----- From: lac...@li... Hello, I agree that the temple should dominate the map, and that the people graphics are to large to scale, but instead of making the people graphics smaller, I had planned on making the temple larger. Also, the town is, I believe a "friendly" town. Do you have any ideas for NPC's in mind? I'll build a building to suit, if so. What do you think about building a wall around the village (with a gate)? Would that be appropriate? Are there any items that you'd like to see on the first map? More map Ideas: In another map I had envisioned a nearby farm, (maybe infested w/ scorpions, as a beginner sub-quest.) Any thoughts about that? The temple interior. I was thinking something like a large central gathering area near the entrance, surrounded by a complex of smaller rooms. Maybe a place to rest or be healed. Maybe a place to buy healing supplies, and/or magical items? Any other map ideas that I should be thinking about? Some technical notes: I'm considering switching the palettes over to jpg's, at least temporarily. The last palette was a whopping 12MB's, and switching to high quality jpg's would probably reduce that by a factor of 10, with a cost to performance, and visual quality. Maybe we can develop using jpg's and create the final release using bmp's? Brent -----Original Message----- From: lac...@li...
