If you log onto xray.orc.soton.ac.uk or blogs.chem.soton.ac.uk (LT2.3 r452)
using IE8 on XP or IE9 on Win 7 and try to make a New Post
then you do not get the TinyMCE formatting buttons.
It looks as though you get the old BBCode interface but I'm not sure that is the case.

But with Firefox it works OK.

blog3 would show the formatting palette under IE so this should be doable.
It's pretty important to fix this.

Just before you close this, you need to find out how to propagate r454 to xray.orc and blogs.chem (and aurora and any other auto-updating 2.3 insts).

Tim spotted similar (perhaps related) issue in Unilever trial:

For Chrome users at least (oh, and I replicated it with Firefox),
there is an odd initial problem.
If you create a new blog then New Post, the TinyMCE bar, icons
and edit area do not appear, just a blank square.

You can fiddle about with it by saving the
new post for later or publishing it and then Edit Post shows
the correct edit view. I saw it work properly too, and I saw
one extreme case where the frame and some of the icons were rendered
and the gaps could be clicked but we couldn't persuade the operation
to work properly at all for one user that seemed to have the same config
as the rest of us (this all applies to aurora r455)

We can't reproduce this at Southampton but we haven't changed anything in that area either.
Leave it live but reduce priority in case it happens again.
