Changes to GUI

labman2 is similar to LabMan in the appearence. Only few minor changes are to be done to the general layout of a data page.

  • Results of the last operation should go first, only then comes the desktop with the list of available for manipulations other items. LabMan makes the user to scroll the screen to see the data e.g. found by the user search operation on the previous step, which is not very nice.
  • The desktop is to be shown with every page, simply after all more important information. This simplifies continuing data handling, e.g comparing spectra of two samples on desktop.
  • Add to desktop one more section, with the list of classes (data types) used by the user for addition to the database.
  • Intensify the analogy to the desk metaphor:
    • The data in the center of the screen right after opening a page is the piece of information (paper) in hand, over the other papers lying on the desktop.
    • There is something above and below those, but less significant.
    • There exist some storage places like drawers and shelves, they can be searched through using the tools in the menu on the left side of the screen.
    • Pieces of information (papers) found by the search tools can be placed on the desktop for work.
    • Old papers can be moved from the desktop back to the storage.
