L_Pa-kernel

L_pa-kernel is kernel 3.6.11-rt25 with some additional patches included.

  • Some patches are non-applied by default, such as reverting stable page writes in EXT4 (which i have been reverting throughout the 3.0+ rt-kernel development, in order to avoid some performance penalties on my systems). I don't recommended using the patch, unless you understand the risks; it is a performance hack and sacrifices a little bit of data-integrity for a nice perfomance gain. therefore, it could be dangerous for some use cases.

  • I've included a Patch from Zen-kernel (which is applied) to allow users who may want additional C/CXXFLAG optimizations for their kernel. I don't recommend you use this, unless you know how. Particularly, do not mess with LDFLAGS. It may be useful at a later date for things Like -flto (lik-time optimizations in GCC), but not until some support (elsewhere) is added for that. The C/CXXFLAGS can be useful though.

  • runtime conntrack changes (netfilter), i have found to be a source of seemingly random xruns on two of my systems - so i think others may find the patch that disables runtime changes for conntrack to be handy. So i have included this.

There are more patches that i am investigating that may be useful to others, but for now - it is important to keep things simple as possible... While for others who may be interested, offering additional options for tweaking / testing out...

  • if you happen to come by patches that you think may be of use, test them on your own ~ and then, if interested, you can pass them along to L_Pa, if that floats your boat ;)
