Apart from the missing file bem.h and space.h the compile also fails with a lot of unresolved externals.

Ah, I managed to find the problem. It's a known problem when updating old projects to VS2005.
Changed the project properties under C/C++ -> Code Generation and make sure a debug library is used in "Runtime Library".
