    Thanks for the offer.

In the root of the kxstitch source tree, run the Messages.sh script and it will update the kxstitch.pot file which contains all translatable text. Copy the kxstitch.pot file to the po folder naming it as fr.po, then use kde lokalise or qt linguist to edit fr.po

You can rebuild and reinstall kxstitch to test it and when your happy with it, you can email it to me and I will update git with it.

If you want a start there is an old fr.po file in CVS (http://kxstitch.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/kxstitch/kxstitch/po/?hideattic=0)
which you can use, but it is very out of date and you may be better starting from scratch.

    Thanks again

    Regards

    Steve

I started to translate kxstitch in french. The procedure you told me to do it is very simple, and localize is easy to use.
I will send you when it will be nice enough.

  • Stephen Allewell

Good to know that your finding it easy to do. I look forward to receiving it.

Sorry, I created a new ticket for my completed french translation. Maybe, I should have not.
Here, my completed french translation as attachment.

Thanks for that, I will add it to Sourceforge and release it with the next patch release sometime next week. I would like to add you to the credits list, what name should I put? Can I add your email address, or would you prefer that to be kept private?

I'm preparing the 1.1.0 release of KXStitch, would you be able to update your French translation for me please.

I have attached an updated fr.po file for you, but you may want to check out the develop branch to get the most up to date code for testing.

    Thanks

    Hi,
So, there is my french translation of kxstitch.
And, now I am the maintener of the Archlinux package, in AUR.

    Thanks for that Zoe.

I have been doing a few more fixes which has resulted in a few more text strings to translate. Sorry to mess you about, but I'll finish up the final few bits and let you know, if you don't mind doing those extra ones.

I'm planning to make the final updates to git (develop branch) at the end of this week, with a release sometime next week if you could manage that.

Do you want me to send you an updated fr.po file or are you happy generating your own?

    Regards

    Steve

No, I do not mind to add translation for new added texts. But, how can I do that without re-entering already translated texts ? Sorry for that probably stupid question… Is the updated fr.po that you are about to send me coming from my translation ? If yes, maybe, it is more convenient that I translate new added texts in that one ?

  • Stephen Allewell

Don't worry, the work you have just done won't be wasted. I'll use the file you just sent me and update that with the new strings before sending it back to you.

    Thanks

    Zoe

Attached an updated fr.po file with the extra text strings from the new features.

I have updated git (develop branch) with all the new code so that you can test your translation.

    Thanks for the contribution.

    Regards

    Steve

    Hello,
I translated extra text strings from the new features.
I wanted to test it with the git version ; I installed it with success. But when I run it, there are still some english items, although I translated them. Though, I carefully pay attention to install the right updated fr.po. I do not see where I am wrong…

I left only 4 items in english, because I think it is more understandable in english, and for some of them, I was unable to produce the situation.

    These 4 items are :
    Minimum overflow
    Stream error
    Document floss version %1
    Stitch queue version %1

  • Stephen Allewell

    Thank you for that.

'Minimum overflow' refers to the minimum number of rows and columns that are allowed to be on a page of their own when using the automatic setup.

'Stream error' refers to a problem when reading from a file, perhaps this should just read 'File read error' - I will check the context.

'Document floss version' is used to identify the internal code used when saving/loading elements of the pattern (in this case the floss). Different codes have been used if there is any change to the data written so that files created by older versions can still be read.

Similarly 'Stitch queue version' is used for the stitch queue element data.

When you test the git version did you ensure you were using the develop branch?

If you used git clone to get KXStitch you probably just have the master branch. To get develop, cd into the folder that contains KXStitch and type the following:
    git checkout -b develop origin/develop

That will switch you to a new branch containing the up to date code. Put your fr.po file in the po folder then run the build.sh script to compile and install it.

    Thanks again

    Regards

    Steve

I have discovered that there was a missing program 'extractrc' from my computer, so the script was missing out extracting some of the strings. Compared to the fr.po file that you sent me there are four more untranslated strings on top of the ones you notified me about earlier, and there are 46 that need to be reviewed, some appear trivial, so hopefully it isn't to much work for you. My apologies for my error.

I have attached an updated fr.po file, but I wanted to let you know that I have created a project on www.transifex.com that provides translation facilities in the hope that I can get additional languages done. I would like to keep everything in one place on Transifex, if possible, so would you be able to take a look and see if you would be interested in creating a translator account there. If you don't think it is appropriate, I can carry on sending you the po file. I understand that if you are happy to use Transifex then your existing translation file could be uploaded, I think I could probably do it myself if you prefer, then nothing is lost.

Let me know what you think.

    Regards

    Steve

Yes, you are right, I was in master branch.
So, I switched to develop branch, as you explained it, and I built it with the fr.po you just joined above.
But now, with the file essai.kxs (joined below), kxstitch crashes when I do :
    File > Printer configuration…
and also when I do :
    File > Print…
In archive.tar.gz below, you will find essai.kxs kxstitch crashes with, and errors.txt, which contains errors messages kxstitch displays in console when crashing.

In Transifex, I created my tranlator account (as Zoe), and I just requested the new language french

  • Stephen Allewell

Thanks for that, I have approved the request for the language translation.

I get the same crash when I try to do a print set up on your pattern, although other patterns I have tried work fine. I'll look deeper into it to find out where it is falling over and do a fix.

    Regards

    Steve

  • Stephen Allewell

I've attached a fixed version of your pattern. It appeared to have a corrupted printer configuration in it. I will investigate why the [...] caused a crash, use the manual method for now.

    Steve

Thank you for the fix on my .kxs file. I will be able to print it now.
I uploaded my french translation (97% completed) on transifex.
I prefer leave 3% not translated, instead giving a wrong translation.
Even sometimes, some items are more understable in english rather in french, even for french-speaking persons.

Just to be exhaustive : kxstitch crashes doing that :
    Open kstitch
    Then File > Print…
    Click on the … button

It is not very important, because there is no reason to print an empty pattern…
But maybe, it is a similar problem than with my essai.kxs.
    Same crash with :
    Open kstitch
    Then File > Printer Configuration…
    Click on the … button

I do not know if you will be able to reproduce it.
Log errors, in console are :
    [chris@christiane kxstitch]$ kxstitch
QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to MainWindow "MainWindow#", which already has a layout
kxstitch(5885)/kdeui (kdelibs): Attempt to use QAction "showPreviewDockWidget" with KXMLGUIFactory!

I have a fix for this crash, but I haven't pushed it to the repository yet as I noticed another problem when using the template so I'll fix that first.

Thank you for the translation, I'm just waiting on a couple more and then I can release V1.1.0

    Regards

    Steve

  • Stephen Allewell

I have now pushed the fix for the crash as well as improvements to the template generation of the print setup.

    Hello,
As maintainer of the package, I just pushed version 1.1.2 on AUR repository.
    Thank you very much !!
    Regards
    Zoe

  • Stephen Allewell

    Thanks for that Zoe

I have put a link on http://kxstitch.sourceforge.net for it.
I notice that the SymbolEditor is there (from a different maintainer) but is out of date. I couldn't see how I could contact them though.

    Regards

    Steve

For SymbolEditor, I posted a message to the maintainer to suggest him I can become the maintainer of the package.
I did success to install SymbolEditor 1.4.0, just with updating PKGBUILD with the new version 1.4.0.
