#3 Initial Setup fails at step 6.6

Installed the latest release on Windows 7 x64 SP1+all current Microsoft updates. Installed the Java app on my Nokia N8-00 phone (firmware 111.040.1511 "Nokia ^3 Belle Refresh, Java CLDC-1.1, MIDP-2.1)
Initial setup fails when key exchanger on PC is sending encrypted key to the Java app on the phone, the PC program log shows this:

Welcome to the Key Helper app
* Auto type: Will attempt to auto type keys sent from phones
Initializing bluetooth
Waiting for connection on local bluetooth radio...
* Send mode: Will send the key to the next client which connects
Client connected
Key encoded successfully
Key file sent successfully
* Auto type: Will attempt to auto type keys sent from phones

but the Java app exits after user OK's an application error dialog: INFO - Error reading key data from host
The Java app correctly stores the Bluetooth name of the user's computer after scanning and presents that choice in a list on subsequent starts of the app.

Any way to further diagnose the failure? Can the Java app generate a detailed log?
