Hello ! Under xawtv, I get image thru tvgrabber (not thru overlay) but no sound even if it recognizes my sound mixer (cs4235) bt878 (Best Buy) when launched xawtv or kwintv, modules show up at lsmod (tuner, tvaudio, bttv, i2c-algo-bit, i2c-core, videodev,msp3400). My sound is OK except in tv. (kscd runs normalway, when kde launches, the kde sound is heard). Under KWintv, it scans and seems to locate working channels, but no image nor sound. Where sd the way be to the image and sound in KWintv ? |

Hi George, I have these (kwintv -v) versions on my LMD8.1 system: Qt: 2.3.1 KDE: 2.2.1 KWinTV: 0.8.10 I compiled kwintv using the mandrake spec file without a glitch and used kwintv without a problem with my Dart (Aims) TV-Radio Live card until some days ago my scsi-bus froze; I was forced to reset manually. Allthough I have the journaled XFS file system, when I rebooted a lot of my KDE config files were filled with ^@ characters rendering KDE unusable. I checked each file and deleted the faulty ones since KDE re-creates them with default values, so I was able to get my system back fully working except for, guess once, kwintv. The symptom is that kwintv comes up perfectly with sound and then after a few seconds crashes out and since KDE's crash handler takes over I still see a perfect image but without sound this time. Exiting the handler brings everything down off course. There's nothing wrong with the card or v4l since my gkrellm radio plugin can still play radio and xawtv still plays tv like before. I operate as a non-root user. This is the output I get in my terminal window: /dev/video [v4l2]: v4l2 support seems to be missing. Using v4l instead. DCOPServer up and running. KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2 KCrash: Application Name = kwintv path = <unknown> pid = 8920 kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children. KLauncher: Exiting on signal 1 kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children. kdeinit: Exit. I tried a lot to resolve this but after each try it crashes out the same. - delete all kwintv config files : kwintv re-installs them and then crashes. - re-install the kwintv rpm I compiled : nope. - re-compile kwintv & re-install : nope. - try as root : nope. - create a new user so no old kde config files around : nope. - re-installed all fonts since the last line of a 'strace kwintv' is about a font: readv(3, [{"9-adobe-helvetica-bold-o-normal-"..., 22516}, {"", 0}], 2) = 22516 --- SIGSEGV (Segmentation fault) --- : nope. - checked permissions on /dev/video* and others : no obvious wrongs there. - re-compiled with --debug-enabled (configure): crashhandler reports this backtrace (last relevant lines): (no debugging symbols found)...[New Thread 1024 (LWP 9057)] 0x40e1e1d9 in wait4 () from /lib/libc.so.6 #0 0x40e1e1d9 in wait4 () from /lib/libc.so.6 #1 0x40e9bef8 in __check_rhosts_file () from /lib/libc.so.6 #2 0x4059e2ae in KCrash::defaultCrashHandler () from /usr/lib/libkdecore.so.3 #3 0x40d26847 in _IO_2_1_stderr_ () from /usr/lib/libstdc++-libc6.2-2.so.3 - ran kwintv --nocrashhandler : got a core of 7MB. This goes beyond my capacities, do you have a clue what could be going wrong? Maybe it has nothing to do with the crash I had but with a setting in KDE I recently switched on. Remember, xawtv works and as far as I know everything else on my system does. I love kwintv so hate missing it. Now for what could be a bug : since I have a radio & a tv on the card it happens that I listen to the radio and then switch on kwintv without stopping the radio 1st; well, kwintv then eats all memory & all swap space while delivering this msg continually loop: kwintv: WARNING: Fatal: v4l1: VIDIOC_G_AUDIO in ::v4l1if I sincerely hope you can help me with this, Thanks, Guy. |

I have released KWinTV version 0.8.10 this evening. It includes many bugfixes and some new functionality. Please test and provide feedback via bugs.kde.org. Details can be found in the ChangeLog. Some key features of this release include preliminary Xinerama support, many crash fixes, a new channel file format (now using KConfig), fullscreen mode bug fixes, and much code cleanup. In addition, a new toy called "KWinTVScreensaver" is included. I would not consider this to be usable yet, but I would appreciate any feedback on it's potential usefulness and design. As always, I encourage people to submit any patches they feel appropriate and try out the code from KDE CVS. The next release is schedule for approximate 1.5 weeks from now. source tar.gz and unofficial SuSE 7.3 rpm and srpm can be found at: http://www.staikos.on.ca/~staikos/kwintv/ There are no RedHat or Mandrake packages at this time, and there are no Debian packages. This is likely to be the last release this year due to KDE 3.0 work on my part. The most likely case for a new release before the New Year is in the event that there is a critical bug affecting most users. -- George Staikos |

I have released KWinTV version 0.8.8 this evening. It includes many bugfixes, some new functionality, a new build system, and the beginning of Xv support [not yet functional]. Please test and provide feedback via bugs.kde.org. This release should be much more stable than previous releases, and it fixes a couple of critical bugs introduced in 0.8.7. As always, I encourage people to submit any patches they feel appropriate and try out the code from KDE CVS. I hope to continue to make weekly or bi-weekly releases until the code is very stable and Xv support is nearly complete. source tar.gz, mandrake rpm and srpm, and redhat rpm and srpm can be found at: http://www.staikos.on.ca/~staikos/kwintv/ -- George Staikos |

Hi! I'm running SuSE7.2 with Kernel 2.4.5, KDE 2.1.2 and ALSA 0.5.11. kwintv is version 0.8.5. Compiling works, but when I try to start kwintv it crashes. The modules are loaded without errors and xawtv works fine. Thanks for your help! Hello, I'm trying to get kwintv & xawtv running on RedHat-7. I have a hauppage WinTV PCI card and I love to watch TV!! They worked fine for me on redhat-6.2 with XFree86-3.x, but now I am using XFree86-4.0.1 and things are not happy: [root@hewes bttv-0.7.46]# rpm -q kwintv kwintv-0.7.5-1 [root@hewes bttv-0.7.46]# kwintv Warning: main: VideoModeExtension Version mismatch, disabled Warning: main: server version 2.0 != included version 0.8 <-----SEE??? Debug: v4l1: Using interface Video4Linux in ::v4lxif Debug: v4l1: Grabber name: BT878(Hauppauge new) [snip] [root@hewes bttv-0.7.46]# rpm -qa | egrep xawtv xawtv-radio-3.23-1 xawtv-misc-3.23-1 xawtv-3.23-1 xawtv-webcam-3.23-1 When I run xawtv I see: v4l: bttv version 0.5.35 v4l: prehistoric bttv version found, please try to <----- SEE?? upgrade the driver before mailing bug reports v4l: 1280x1024, 32 bit/pixel, 5120 byte/scanline Basically, both applications will start running, but they corrupt my display pretty badly, spraying pixels all over the screen, as well as just in their window. Someone has said I need to enable DGA in my XFree86-4, but I'm quite sure I DO! have it enabled already. My XFree86 logfile reports: (II) Module extmod: vendor="The XFree86 Project" compiled for 4.0.1a, module version = 1.0.0 Module class: XFree86 Server Extension ABI class: XFree86 Server Extension, version 0.1 (II) Loading extension SHAPE (II) Loading extension MIT-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD (II) Loading extension BIG-REQUESTS (II) Loading extension SYNC (II) Loading extension MIT-SCREEN-SAVER (II) Loading extension XC-MISC (II) Loading extension XFree86-VidModeExtension (II) Loading extension XFree86-Misc (II) Loading extension XFree86-DGA <----------------SEE!? (II) Loading extension DPMS (II) Loading extension FontCache (II) Loading extension TOG-CUP (II) Loading extension Extended-Visual-Information [snip] And looking at the output from kwintv, I see: Warning: main: VideoModeExtension Version mismatch, disabled Warning: main: server version 2.0 != included version 0.8 so it looks to me like the XFree86 server is running DGA-v2. My question is simple. What do I need to do to get either kwintv or xawtv running on my Redhat-7 box? I've tried compiling a new bttv-0.7.46 module as xawtv recommends, but not only does it not build, but it somehow corrupts my kernel tree, so I can no longer build the kernel or modules. Thanks in advance! -Darren |
