ab (on host) against httpd (on guest) reproduces within a few minutes.

uniprocessor guest: works
smp guest: fails
smp guest with one offlined cpu: works
smp guest with httpd pinned to cpu 0: works

so it's either a guest driver smp problem, or an ioapic problem.
