I'm afraid we can't/should do anything about it. We use kfmclient on KDE to open URLs and this is it's behaviour. Try executing "kfmclient exec /tmp" from konsole. Maybe this can be changed in the window manager configuration. I'll probably close this bug as "Won't fix" in a few days if there are no updates on the topic.

I lied about us using kfmclient, we use Qt QDesktopServices class, I don't think we have any way of solving this problem, unless you configure (if it's possible) you desktop to do so. A couple of possible tests would be to set firefox as default browser in KDE and see if it happens the same and testing this on Windows or Mac.

It must be possible somehow - clicking an ULR in kmail opens konqueror and makes it the active window.
