Hi, I'm sending a status report about what would be needed for a KF6 / Qt6 release. The current git master mostly works correctly, except the following items: - a newly created circuit or flowcode document cannot be saved, the Save button is disbled for it. After the focus is changed away from it and back, then the document can be save, the Save button is enabled - when closing document tabs, I have observed some crashes on non-ASAN [1] builds. The crashes might be related to a warning in terminal [2]. - there are many warnings about shortcuts not set with proper methods [3]. Not sure about the impact, it should be investigated. There is the known issue by me of KTechLab and Microbe leaking memory ; I'm not planning to tacle that before a new relaese ; fixing all the memory leaks might require significant internal rework of the application. Feel free to test the current git master, and signal any issues you find. Have fun, Zoltan [1] ASAN - Address Sanitizer ; enabled for example by the build-developer.sh script [2] ./src/kxmlguiclient.cpp : 85 warning KXMLGUIClient::~KXMLGUIClient -- 0x5110008fa128 deleted without having been removed from the factory first. This will leak standalone popupmenus and could lead to crashes. [3] ./src/kxmlguifactory.cpp : 359 critical KXMLGUIFactoryPrivate::saveDefaultActionProperties -- Shortcut for action "edit_delete" "Delete" set with QAction::setShortcut()! Use KActionCollection::setDefaultShortcut(s) instead. |

Hi, in git master I have fixed the crash on document closing. Based on my testing, also the example menu now shows up correctly. Some testing of current git master would be useful, to make sure that everyting works correctly before release. The windows version of KTechLab currently builds and runs using the KDE Craft system. Currently I do not have a timeline for release. The vesion number of the next release will be most likely 0.60 . Have fun, Zoltan |

Hi, I have started the porting of KTechLab to Qt6/KF6; an initial version that compiles can be found in the `kf6-v0` branch : https://invent.kde.org/sdk/ktechlab/-/tree/kf6-v0?ref_type=heads Any help with making the new version usable is welcome. The current status is: This port builds and the application starts up, but it crashes when closing the application or when closing any document. The examples menu shows invalid entries. I have also seen some warnings in the console, probably those would be nice to fix, too. Besides fixes, testing would be also very useful, to have a list of know issues (and those to be fixed at some point). Have fun, Zoltan |

Hello, A discussion started about automatically starting simulation at KTechLab startup. Some feedback would be useful. I have opened an issue about it here, with arguments listed: https://invent.kde.org/sdk/ktechlab/-/issues/9 There are some pro and against arguments. What is your opinion? Best regards, Zoltan |

FYI, apparently KTechLab 0.51.0 might crash when using subcircuits. Release 0.50.0 is not affected. Fix is in git master [1] Testing is welcome :-) The crash is introduced by the modernistaion of signals/slots mechanism, where a C++ lambda has been introduced, and I assume that those changes interfere with some object lifetime. Hi, I have seen that KDE Gitlab now shows a nice report about potential issues with source code. Most of these looks quite trivial, for example non-initialized class members. These could be fixed easily, and would help learning about the code-base, or getting hands-on experience with C++. For example see on this page, the "Code Quality" section: https://invent.kde.org/sdk/ktechlab/-/merge_requests/25 Alternatively see the artifacts of the "cppcheck" task, here: https://invent.kde.org/sdk/ktechlab/-/artifacts look for " gl-code-quality-report.json " file. The exact location and type of issues is shown both in json and in the web interface, too. Maybe there is a more user-friendly location where the warnings are shown. Best regards, Zoltan |

Hi, just FYI, there is a discussion on bugzilla about including KTechLab in KDE Gear. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=467657 I think it is a good idea, however, I assume that there are some things to fix before getting there. " What I have found on the wiki: https://community.kde.org/Schedules " See Policies/Application_Lifecycle for what gets released where. " https://community.kde.org/Policies/Application_Lifecycle - based on this, KTechLab currently is in playground - to get into KDE Gear, it should go through kdereview - after kdereview, Ask release-team for inclusion -- https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/release-team/ So, as I see, to get into KDE Gear, the following should be done: 1. prepare for kdereview 1.1 see a checklist here: https://community.kde.org/ReleasingSoftware 1.2 also see open bugs on bugzilla... 2. go through kdereview 2.1 fix anything signaled there 3. apply for inclusion in KDE Gear " Best regards, Zoltan |

Hi, does anybody know how to use the releaseme / tarme scripts [1] with a branch? Perhaps some branch name needs to be set in repo-metadata [2] ? I have tried to use the tarme script for this release, but it only fetches git master. Given the recent updates around the translation files, maybe if I copy the translations from 0.50.0, I could get a valid release in the source control. But I'm not sure if creating a source code archive from that as a release tarball is good or safe idea :-) [1] https://invent.kde.org/sdk/releaseme [2] https://invent.kde.org/sysadmin/repo-metadata/-/tree/master/projects-invent/sdk/ktechlab In case you can help me with this, feel free to reply or contact me. Hi, today I've fixed the only issue have I considered blocking for a new release [1]. And all the fixes from the stable branch (0.50) are included in git master. I'm seriously thinking about creating a new release from git master. Looking at git log, the changes since 0.50.0 are mostly are about code modernization and error/stability fixing. What I could call new feature is the experimental support for Windows. Feedback on this topic is welcome. If things go well, next week I will create a release tarball. Hi, I'm preparing bug-fix release version 0.50.1, based on release 0.50.0, with the following changes: - Fix: The "Open" dialog doesn't show any files when "*|All Files" is chosen as selector ( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457665 ) - Fix: Segfault when changing element value ( https://github.com/ktechlab/ktechlab/issues/60 ) - Fix: When the schematic project is saved in .circuit format but w/out .circuit extension it auto-opens as text when the program is started ( https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=439016 ) - Fix crash when opening a document using KRecentFilesAction - Fix 2 possible crashes on some specific routing situations of wires The code is found in git, in branch "release/0.50". Please note that this release is not based on git master, it just back-ports some existing fixes. In case you have any comments, feedback, then feel free to send them. Probably next week I will create a release archive + tag + announce the release. Have fun, Zoltan |

Hi, I have seen that on the Continuous Integration (CI) systems at KDE there are quite a few build warnings about usage of deprecated Qt / KDE APIs. For example see the log from below: https://invent.kde.org/sdk/ktechlab/-/jobs/416638 Fixing these warnings should be quite straightforward, most warnings even show suggestions about what would be a possible fix. In case someone would like to get familiar with KTechLab ot KDE or Qt development, feel free to send merge requests with fixes to these warnings. Best regards, Zoltan |

Hi, for windows environment there are some hints on the Craft wiki about setting up a development environment with Qt Creator or Visual Studio Code: https://community.kde.org/Craft#Windows https://community.kde.org/Craft#Using_Craft_with_VS_Code_.28or_Code-OSS.29 Personally I have only made some minor fixes on windows, using Notepad++ and building from the Craft terminal and the git tools (git gui and gitk ) On linux systems I use KDevelop for KTechLab, but any IDE that supports CMake should work easily, like Qt Creator, Visual Studio Code, ... Hi, I'd like to learn a bit about Ktechlabs source code and maybe in time contribute to fixing some "beginner" bugs. What would you recommend as a development setup for Windows 10 or Linux Mint 21 "Vanessa". I have got the craft setup on my Windows 10 PC. Could development work be done from within this environment? Or would it be much easier to setup something in Linux Mint 21. I hope you can give me some advice. Thanks. Regards, David. |

Hi, I think it is normal that running the ktechlab.exe from other directories than C:\CraftRoot\bin shows errors from missing DLLs. Probably ktechlab.exe expects its dependencies (for example KDE and Qt libraries) to be in the same directory (or in system directories?) and otherwise it cannot find them. Updating with Craft apparently can be done with craft -i ktechlab as I have seen in the documentation: https://community.kde.org/Craft#Updating_a_package This should get the latest code from git master. Have fun with KTechLab, Zoltan David J S Briscoe <da...@dj...> ezt írta (időpont: 2022. szept. 8., Cs, 19:47): > > Hi, > I've used the command craft ktechlab at the powershell terminal and I've ended up with 3 copies of ktechlab.exe (see screenshot attached). The copy of ktechlab.exe in C:\CraftRoot\bin runs fine. However if I run the copies in C:\CraftRoot\build\extragear\ktechlab\work\build\bin\ and C:\CraftRoot\build\extragear\ktechlab\image-RelWithDebInfo-master\bin\ I get error messages about missing DLL files. Is this normal? If I run the craft ktechlab command later on will any source code updates be downloaded before it gets built again? Thanks. > > David. > |

If you have Craft installed, then start the Craft powershell / terminal . >From there, the command craft ktechlab should start the build of KTechLab. As far as I remember, there is no need to explicitly download the blueprint file, as it should be already located in Craft's directory hierarchy. On my computer for example it is located in the directory: C:\Craft_msvc2019\etc\blueprints\locations\craft-blueprints-kde\extragear\ktechlab The directory C:\Craft_msvc2019\etc\blueprints\locations\craft-blueprints-kde should be a git clone of the repository https://invent.kde.org/packaging/craft-blueprints-kde/ If the build finishes with success, craft --run ktechlab should launch ktechlab. Hi, Could you please clarify for me what steps I should now take to compile Ktechlab using craft. I'm assuming that I need to copy this file to my computer https://invent.kde.org/packaging/craft-blueprints-kde/-/blob/master/extragear/ktechlab/ktechlab.py If so where do I save the file? I'm guessing that I should then open a powershell window. Which commands do I enter at the powershell command line? Thanks. David. Hi, I have managed to get craft setup from a powershell window. At one stage it asked me if I wanted to use a MINGW or a MSVC2019 compiler. I chose the latter. Everything seemed to install OK after a load of scary text scrolling by on the powershell screen. I will try compiling ktechlab using craft next weekend. I hope it all works out. I'll report back later. Thanks. David. Hi, How would I set up the environment variables for MSVC 2019? The craft notes only mention 2015 and 2017 Note: For Microsoft Visual Studio compiler, it's necessary to have VCTOOLSREDISTDIR environment variable pointing to: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2017\Professional\VC\Redist\MSVC\xx.xx.xxxxx" for MSVS 2017 and VCINSTALLDIR environment pointing to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2015\Community\VC\" for MSVS 2015. I have checked my environment variables and VCTOOLSREDISTDIR and VCINSTALLDIR does not exist in a permanent way (maybe these are set up somehow at run time). Would I just create these variable and point them to the relevant directories for MSVC 2019. What variables do you have set up? Any help welcome. Thanks. David. PS Maybe this will help? https://renenyffenegger.ch/notes/Windows/development/Visual-Studio/environment-variables/index On 04/09/2022 10:07, Zoltan Padrah wrote: > MSVC / Visual Studio is just one of the required software components > needed for compiling KTechLab on Windows. > Some others are: > - Qt libraries > - dependencies of Qt libraries > - (some) KDE libraries > - dependencies of the KDE libraries > - (some) KDE runtime components > - dependencies of KDE runtime components > > Theoretically you can set up all those manually, but probably it would > take quite some time and effort. > > Installing all this software can be automated, essentially this is the > basic idea of Craft, as far as I know. > > > Zoltan > > > David J S Briscoe <da...@dj...> ezt írta (időpont: > 2022. szept. 4., V, 9:38): > > Hi, > Thanks for your reply. > I will read the information in the links you provided and give > craft a try. > Are there any other ways of compiling Ktechlab for Windows 10? MSVC / Visual Studio is just one of the required software components needed for compiling KTechLab on Windows. Some others are: - Qt libraries - dependencies of Qt libraries - (some) KDE libraries - dependencies of the KDE libraries - (some) KDE runtime components - dependencies of KDE runtime components Theoretically you can set up all those manually, but probably it would take quite some time and effort. Installing all this software can be automated, essentially this is the basic idea of Craft, as far as I know. Hi, Thanks for your reply. I will read the information in the links you provided and give craft a try. Are there any other ways of compiling Ktechlab for Windows 10? I saw MSVC 2019 mentioned somewhere (I have VS 2019 and 2022 community editions installed). David. The craft recipe is in the craft-blueprints-kde repository [1] ; this git repository (and several others) is automatically cloned when Craft is set up. Hi, Ive managed to install KTECHLAB on linux Mint using the APT-GET command so I didn't have to build anything. Where is the craft recipe located? Is it in the source code repository? I'd like to give it a try. Thanks. David.
