Hello, I had some problems in installing ksubtile-1.3. I downloaded the ksubtile-1.3.tar.bz2 from here: *https://sourceforge.net/projects/ksubtile/ <https://sourceforge.net/projects/ksubtile/>* Then I followed the instructions from here: *http://ksubtile.sourceforge.net/ <http://ksubtile.sourceforge.net/>* but I received an error that I report in attachment. Waiting for your help: I would like to see the movie tonight! Thank you, Francesco L. Romeo |

Hi FN, There is no public online documents of KSubtile. You have to use that is embedded into the program. However you may download it separately from http://ksubtile.cvs.sourceforge.net/ksubtile/ksubtile/doc/en/ but it's an KDE DocBook document, so you need DocBook. I doubt that you can read it without KDE. Regards Brazso ps. em Goa falam se portugues? Hi Vicki, Unfortunately using the mentioned resolution you cannot reach the bottom Apply button of the Editor tab if the upper MPlayer controls widget is on. You must hide it (Settings/Tools/Hide MPlayer controls) and after you can decrease the height of the window to reach the button. It is more easier to detach the complete bottom Editor widget to another window if you need the MPlayer controls. There is a small arrow in the top right corner of the 2 used widgets with detach function. There is a further plan to port the application to KDE4/QT4 where the similar size problems will be solved. Hi, First I'd like to say what a great app ksubsubtile is and thank the developers for it. I'm having a slight problem. On the Edit Tab, after I make changes to the text to clean it up, how do I commit the changes? Is there an "Apply" button as there is on the other tabs? The reason I ask is because even though I'm running my screen at 1024x768, ksubtile runs off the bottom of my screen. I can narrow the program window, but I can't shorten it. Can anybody help? Thanks, Vicki |

Does the application support utf8 files? I'm trying to edit some spanish .sub files. Actuallly, i would love to have such feature because:
1. Some people have Home Cinema systems with VCD/DivX players that
can't handle subtitles. Those who do support separate subtitle files,
ususally don't support all languages (but mplayer does).
2. I couldn't find any easy-to-use mencoder frontend to embed
subtitles in a movie file nor mencoder documentation/examples about it
(Do you have a link? .. i know , i know .. STFW, RTFM :) ).

It is probably the bug whereby long filenames get squeezed and KSubtile tries then to start mplayer with the squeezed filename instead of the full filename! So a fix is in progress. Linking works because the filename then is not so long and doesn't get squeezed so KSubtile finds the file in this case. > Otherwise, what other subtitling software exists for Linux? Thanks. not much I'm afraid :) The new version is due out soon, with the fix! greetz, Tom, |

Greetings, I've been looking for ways to subtitle movies without having to reboot to Windows; KSubtile seemed to fit the bill. However, I'm having a serious problem with KSubtile, where it won't load a given movie, with the error message: "The selected movie appears not to be readable by MPlayer!" -- which is, of course, untrue. The movie runs perfectly when fed to MPlayer from the command line. This only happens with certain movies. Some don't load either, but there's no error message. Some will sometimes be loaded alright, and sometimes not. I've found a horrible workaround: 1) ln -s WorkingFile.avi blah.avi 2) Tell KSubtile to load blah.avi 3) rm blah.avi ; ln -s RealFile.avi blah.avi But it's extremely inconvenient. For once, WorkingFile.avi is ~20 minutes long, and KSubtitle won't accept to seek into RealFile.avi further than that time. Do you have any idea what the bug might be? Is a fix in the work? Otherwise, what other subtitling software exists for Linux? Thanks. -- S. |

I tried to do this but can't find any good information on how to do it properly. So I thought it worked and, as I've seen that kde 3.1 doesn't have a handy dialog to select the encoding when you open a file, I tried to do this myself, but I've seem to have done something wrong. I've got this file in polish to test on, and it looked like it worked when I labelled KSubtile 1.0. Embedding this window into the main window > would be much more easier to use. It is possible, but the problem then is that you need to use X11 as video output I think to make it work OK. Just look at kmplayer, i tried it once and I only saw my video in the application itself when I tried X11, and I didn't find this very good. Also, my GUI takes up a lot of space already, so I think it is not really good to make it use even more space by doing the playing all in the same window. I already had someone who found this 'separate-window' behaviour to be better than the other approach, so it is not high on my priorities list sorry :-) greetz, Tom, |

Hello! Well, I'm quite suprised to see no good application for subtitle creation under Linux apart from this one ;) I have already submitted a bug report concerning non-functional encoding conversion, but this post is a wish: Is it possible to embed the mplayer into the GUI of KSubtile? My "problem" is: I'm using ion as a window manager (no, I'm not using KDE), which is a really fine one, with frames instead of windows. If mplayer is started as a separate window, I have to manually put it into an appropriate frame or fiddle with it some other way. Embedding this window into the main window would be much more easier to use. -- Nikolai Prokoschenko ni...@pr... / Jabber: pr...@ja... |
