I have a backup of my recipes and recently had to reinstall.   I built from the latest source which is the same version I had before (.91).  When I run the restore it recreates the database tables but doesn't repopulate them.

Before I reloaded I used this same restore with kde 3.5 (have kde 3.4 now) and it worked.

I've never had any problems before with restoring a backup.  If you email me (jkivlighn@gmail.com) the backup file, I'll take a look.

Or, you could do a manual restore (the database must be empty first, i.e. there is no table structure):

      zcat backup_file.krecbk | mysql -u username -p database_name
