First, let me thank you for putting so much effort into making a really cool game available to all.
I recently installed 8 Kingdoms version 1.1.0 on a new Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex) machine using the .deb provided on the downloads page. To try it out, I started a local game on the "Introduction" map against an Easy AI opponent. Everything seems to work great until the third turn, when it starts to rain. When I try to have a unit attack or build a new unit while it's raining, I get the hourglass cursor like it's processing, but it never goes away. I can still move around the map like normal, but I can't click on anything or interact with the game in any other way. I've tried this several times, and each time I get the exact same behavior.
I think this might be related to the AI in some way, because once I tried playing the same map with 2 local players (hotseat), and I was able to get past the 3rd turn.
Let me know if there's anything I can do to help track this down.
