Thank you Olivier for asking the question; I came here for the same! Would you (Alex) maybe like to add this on the summary page?
Thank you for your quick and detailed answer. I thought that the KeePass team had some sort of code review before posting external work on their own page. I'm just wary of installing any plugin in this kind of application, obviously. Thanks also for the link, I must confess that I didn't searched beforehand.
It isn't listed on the plugins page because it doesn't do anything, on its own, so is not advertised as a plugin for users to install. As for your level of confidence, this was discussed here: https://sourceforge.net/p/keepass/discussion/329220/thread/6862fb9a/ Basically, being listed on the plugins page does not imply a code review or security check of any sort. If you want confidence in a plugin, you must either be able to read and understand the source yourself, or have someone you trust do it...
Hello. Why is KPSourceForgeUpdateChecker missing from KeePass plugins page? What level of confidence can I have in it if its not recognized/advertized by KeePass?
Strange that it worked on 2.39, then - there must be some sort of System.Web available on that VM otherwise it could not have ever worked - KPSourceForgeUpdateChecker has always required System.Web. Perhaps this is something that could be referred to the KeePass developer, as it's the new plugin compatibility checker that is failing, not KPSourceForgeUpdateChecker itself.
I mean compiling from the .plgx by KeePass. I used a virtual machine distributed by MS. Perhaps it has some throubles with .NET. You are right, there are no problem with another machine under Windows 7.
Do you mean just when you run KeePass, compiling from the .plgx or are you trying to build KPSourceForgeUpdateChecker from source yourself? Please check you have .NET Framework 3.5 correctly installed. That should include the System.Web that the error is complaining is missing.
Compile error (Windows 7, KeePass 2.40)
