Fair enough.

But if kpcli does not support default kbdx files created with newer official Keepass versions, please say so directly and prominently on https://sourceforge.net/p/kpcli/ so we know before installing it, seeing that it doesn't work and then having to search the bug archive to find issue 46.

And for other readers: I would strongly suggest not revering to an older, unrecommended encryption scheme that doesn't get focus from keepass devs unless you really know what you're doing. I certainly won't. At least KeepassXC says under Database Security / Security / Encryption Settings that KDBX 4.0 is recommended.

    KDBX4 file support is on its way with the upcoming release of version 4.0. You can download 4.0-beta6 now and give it a try. I would appreciate the beta testing. Thanks.
