The GPL license allows modification/distribution as long as the resulting code is also GPL. LGPL allows pretty much anything, including commercial use. Which puzzles me actually, because I though the two licenses were incompatible... But in any case it should be fine to change and reuse the code.

The title is the question. Is the name Kompozer a trademark, are the icons trademarks? Are there any issues with building and redistributing the code?

KompoZer’s name and its icon are not trademarked and *never* will be.
The icon follows the tri-license, GPL/LGPL/MPL.
