#68 kompozer hangs with 6 processes but no output

rahul dhesi

I installed kompozer as follows on a machine running PClinuxOS (with a 2.6.12 kernel).

Downloaded kompozer-077-i686.tgz from http://kompozer.net/.

As root, untarred it into a directory tree /usr/local/kompozer.

Found no installation instructions on the web site at kompozer.net, nor any INSTALL or README or similar file within the untarred directory tree above. Continued based on guesswork.

As root, created a symlink /usr/local/bin/kompozer pointing to the executable file /usr/local/kompozer/kompozer .

As a non-root user, from a shell window, typed 'kompozer' to run the program.

Result: the program appears to hang, produces no output in the shell window, creates no window of its own, and results in no syslog entries.

Output from 'pstree -aup' shows that six new processes are in fact active:

`-run-mozilla.sh,350 /usr/local/kompozer/run-mozilla.sh /usr/local/kompozer/kompozer-bin

    Installation instructions:

to run KompoZer you need to install: libstdc++5 or libstdc++5dev

Download Linux 2.6.15 tarball from KompoZer.net
unpack the archiv to your home-directory (or any other)
    Open direktory running file: kompozer
It's always handy to put a starter on your desktop.

    Regards Eleanora

    Is a hang-without-output not considered a bug?

yes, I would agree with you there.

This bug is not confirmed by anyone else I asked to check. The Platform independet Linux-bin is working on Ubuntu, Suse, Mandrake 1, Gentoo, Debian the only one I ever read about difficulties is Feadora 5.

Please check if the package of kompozer0.77 is complete. It sometimes happen, that a package breaks during download.
If that is not the case, have you tried building KompoZer from source? You should find a list of dependencies within the sourcecode-archive.
