Building on RedHat should be fine. I've been building on Mandrake 9.1 ships with Qt 3.1.1 and KDE 3.1.0. I've tried to be keep the code pretty generic, so hopefully it will build on any of the Qt/KDE 3.x versions, so yes, Qt/KDE 3.x should be the only dependencies. Steven, I'll set you up an account on sharkey.servebeer.com so you'll have access to a few other distros. I'll send you the details in an off-list reply. Here's a breakdown of what platforms I have and ones that I intend to bring on-line..... Mandrake: I have a two boxes running Mandrake 9.1 currently. First box is my old workstation, a dual processor P233, second box is my new workstation, a dual processor AMD Athlon 1.9Ghz. I just finished downloading the Mandrake 9.2 ISOs so I will upgrade one of the Mandrake boxes shortly so we'll have access to both 9.1 and 9.2. SuSe: I would like to get a SuSe box up and running at some point. I almost have another (laptop) box up and running that I could install SuSe on. It's an older british laptop (P233) 64MB ram, and NO CD-ROM, so I have to do a network install, only problem is the floppy drive is flakey and I can't get it to load the entire boot disk even after disassembling the floppy and cleaning and dabbing lithium grease on the lead screws, etc....<sigh>....all it needs to do is load the installer, just once! Anyway, patiently working on that. Debian: I have a 68k Macintosh that I've been running Debian Linux on for a few years. It is currently off-line while I physically relocate it. I will also be doing a few upgrades on it. The 68k Mac should be back online soon. Even though it is a 68k architecture, the build process should be the same as on Intel architecture. We'll probably want to get those spec files and any build scripts into CVS once we start getting CVS in order. Mark's on the case with that. I guess that's all for now. --Mike On Wednesday 19 November 2003 10:21 am, skr...@f2... wrote: > OK, I started to write the Spec file for an RPM of v0.5.3 on my RedHat > box... > > I quickly broswed through the source and so far the only requirments that > need to be installed on the Machine are the KDE Libs & QT. OK, I started to write the Spec file for an RPM of v0.5.3 on my RedHat box... I quickly broswed through the source and so far the only requirments that need to be installed on the Machine are the KDE Libs & QT. Is this correct or is there something I am overlooking? Also, what versions of the KDE Libs & QT are you using? Unfortunally, at work we use RedHat, so at home I use RedHat, and I don't really have access to any other distro's, so the RPMs I pack will only be tested on RedHat. Is there anyone using SuSe or Mandrake and whatnot who would be able to test them out to make sure they work right? I think thats about all for now SK |

Good Day Everyone, I guess I should intruduce everyone involved with the project first of all, and state their primary roles....... Robert Bachmann - Web Designer Mark Birch - CVS/release admin Steven Kreuzer - Packager Builder Mike Sharkey - programmer I think all those listed should also have moderator and tracker privilages. This is my first experience with sourceforge so please let me know if A) I've done something really dumb, or B) I need to let you have access to something that you currently don't have privilages for. Also, I have a few different systems available for building, packaging, testing web sites, basically they are available for anything related to Komport. They are located at: http://sharkey.servebeer.com just let me know if you'd like a secure shell account there. Okay, so let me bring everyone up to speed on where I am with the coding... I'm real busy lately with a release at my day job but I have managed to do a little bit of work on Komport over the last week or so. I've managed to add the ability to extend text selection into the history buffer. Still a few minor bugs with that but it's mostly working. While I'm on the subject of text selection, what do people feel about the way that komport currently does text selection, it selects text in a rectangle rather that contiguous text selection as per, say xterm. I think there are times when selecting a rectangular area are desirable, and there are also times when contiguous text selection is desirable. What I'm getting at is I would like to do both but I'm wondering about the user interface for switching modes. I was thinking of using a meta key (shift/alt/ctl) to switch modes during selection. While I think that would be good from an operational standpoint, I don't feel it's very intuitive. Perhaps using meta key selection mode toggle in conjunction with a settings form item to select the default mode? My thinking is that having a visible item on the settings form will draw attention to this functionality. Any thoughts? In any case, for next release, I would like to finish up the recent work on text selection and then address the 6 or so outstanding bugs. I think that would address the most annoying bugs and should make a pretty nice release. Anyone else have any input on functions/bugs for next release? Also, it would be really nice to get source and binary RPMs included in next release. Most of the trouble people have been having with the tar.gz releases is the build process, headers not installed and that sort of thing. Meanwhile Mark will be getting us up and running with sourceforge CVS at some point which should really help out with the releases. Well, that's all I can think of for now. Thank you all for participating! Yours Truely, Mike Sharkey |
