There are many ways to produce an error in LaTeX. TeX error messages are not always very informative. KOMA-Script therefore tries to detect the more common errors before they produce confusing error messages and shows them. Although KOMA-Script usually provides detailed help on the error message, most LaTeX editors neither request nor display this help. Therefore we deal with some error messages in more detail.

! Undefined control sequence … \ifpdftex
! Undefined control sequence … \ifVTeX
Class scrartcl Error: undefined old font command `…'.
Besides the error messages there are also various warnings. For these, further explanations are partly useful as well.

LaTeX Font Warning: Font shape `…' in size <…> not available size <…> substituted on input line ….
Package scrbase Warning: Usage of deprecated command `\if…'.
