How floating environments can be modified, extended or created for objects other than figures and tables

Floating environments like the figure environment for figures or the table environment for tables are a very powerful tool in LaTeX kernel. KOMA-Script therefore offers additional features beyond the LaTeX kernel and the standard classes, not only for configuring the existing floating environments, but also for creating new environments for similar objects.
