#45 Debug option for the typearea layout

I've got a feature request by e-mail:

For debugging it would be useful to be able to activate a figure like Figure 2.1 of the manual in the page background similar to the background of package showframe or as a standalone image similar to the information of package layout. Can you add an option or command to package typearea?

Both is not a major problem. The main thing would be to generalize the code of the picture environment already used in the manual with calculation of the horizontal and vertical distances. But is this really needed? Moreover, because of the rounding to n \baselineskip + \topskip the real values will differ and therefore the image is always a theoretical one or the starting point for the real values. Therefore, I do not expect much benefit from such an illustration—be it in the background or as a scale drawing.

So, maybe it would be enough to generalize the code in the manual source and anybody, who is interested in having such a image, could then just copy the code and change the parameters?

I am currently waiting for feedback on this proposal and further information.

After asking the e-mail author two times, I've got the answer, that the original questioner isn't interested in such a feature any longer. So I've moved it to the milestone once upon a time. Maybe it will closed soon as wont-fix
