Dear enquiries

I am writing regarding the implementation of the KNXnet/IP plugin in 
Wireshark.

I have downloaded and installed the last version (v. 3.4.7, 64-bit for 
windows 10) of Wireshark through the link that is provided from 
knxnetipdissect.sourceforge.net.
Using the same website, I downloaded the knx plugin v 0.0.4 and I tried 
to copy both the package-knxnetip.c file and the plugin.rc.in file into 
the directory of the Wireshark application plugins>3.4>epan.
Then, I open the program and go to Edit>Preferences>Protocols, but the 
KNX/IP is missing.

I have also tried doing the same procedure using the plugin version 
v0.03 which gives me the knxnetip.dll but I keep getting different 
errors.

Please respond ASAP, I am looking forward to hearing from you.

I'm sending you this email (hoping since 2009 this adress is still used ) , cause I tried to use your knx plugin for wireshark, but this didn't work . When I launch wireshark i got 2 error, after that wireshark work but simply didn't use the plugin .

here the errors.
"the procedure entry point match_strvat_idx could not be located in the dynamic link library libwireshark.dll"

"couldn't load module C\:..\plugins\1.10.6\knxnetip.dll: `C\:..\plugins\1.10.6\knxnetip.dll:` The specified procedure could not be found."


any idea why this didn't work? maybe the lib is too old and don't work anymore with actual version of wireshark?

Hi!

I'm sorry, but I currently don't have access to an installation.
Attached you can
find 2 PCAP-Files I found in my source-directory of the dissector.
Since the project is over three years old and there was no need to touch
anything since then, I can't remember the contents of the two PCAP-files.
But I guess these files are the ones we were using for testing ;)

If the files don't meet your requirements or you need something different, I
(hopefully) can provide some new capure-files within the next month (when
I have access to an installation again).

I am looking information about the KNX IP dataframe. I understand that the KNXnet datagram is encapsulated in an IP frame but I looking for a representation of that IP frame.
Anyone could provide me an example, please?
Besides, if I want to send a command to turn on a light. Is the KNX datagram begin a cEMI frame, then it's encapsulated in the tunelling request. Otherwise, where the usual messages to turn on a frame are send on the IP network between all these services:

Hello Christian!

You're right - the plugin has not been commited to Wireshark. Currently we 
cannot put any huge effort in this project. Only small error with detailed 
descriptions can be fixed. Thus there is no plan to commit the plugin to 
Wireshark.
The same argument applies to the support of cEMI. We know that it would be 
very useful and it has been requested by many users. But since we're not 
working at the university any more and do not have any contact to KNX in our 
current jobs, there is no plan from our side to do this. Maybe there will be a 
small student's project at the university.
Since the sourcecode is available, everyone is welcome to extend the plugin.

I guess this was not the answer you would like to hear. Sorry for that.

send telegrams to a KNX network), but as far as I can see the plugin has 
not been commited to Wireshark (at least it is not in the trunk for the 
current development release 1.5.0).

As it would be very useful to have this plugin in this release as well 
(I've just commited some chages to other dissectors which are now 
present in the latest Wireshark build) I wonder about the roadmap for 
commiting the KNX/IP plugin to the Wireshark sources.

I therefore kindly ask you give me some feed-back regarding the 
following points:

    * Are there plans to commit the KNX/IP dissector to Wireshark?
    * If yes, what is the roadmap?
    * Why is the KNX/IP dissector built as plugin rather than an
      integrated dissector?
