You can only select text with your mouse according to the regex for token boundaries. This regex is not currently settable - but I plan to make it so.
If you need to further refine your span selection, create an annotation that includes all (and extra) text that you want highlighted. Then modify the spans of the annotation using the grow and shrink buttons (above the list of annotations).
