    Karats - 2004-05-10

    Hi All,

A great project. I am very much an open source advocate and do try out the coolest stuff in open source.

I have read the documentation and I have been trying to get the KO_Client to work for sometime now and have not been able to install it on the MSOffice toolbar. Is there a manual way? or am I missing something.

    My configuration:
    KnowledgeOffice Server is running
    KnowledgeTree is running
    Microsoft Office 2003 installed on D:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\

I tried Installed and unistalled, copy the DLLs everywhere. Still no signs of the knowledge office toolbar showing up. Any ideas?

    Thanx

      Michael,

Sorry you've experienced some problems.  Try this:

      1) Open Word 2003
      2) Select Tools -> Customize
      3) Select the Commands tab
      4) Select Tools from the Categories box
      5) Select COM Add-Ins from the Commands box
      6) Drag this command to the Tools menu
      7) Click Close
      8) Select Tools -> COM Add-Ins
      9) Check if KnowledgeOffice is listed as an available
add-in.  If so, and it is not checked then check it
and restart Word - you should see it.  If not, then
      there was an installation problem

I used KO in Office 2003, so I know it works :-).  One
problem I have experienced from time to time and which
you may have is Word running in the background, even
after you close it.  Try installing KnowledgeOffice
and then launching Excel.  If you see a
KnowledgeOffice button on the toolbar then KO is
installed correctly.  If you still don't see it in
Word, then close down all copied of Word, open the
task manager and terminate the WinWord.exe process.
Then restart Word.  You should see it.

Let me know if this helps.

      Hi Rob!

I'm having the same problems as Karats. I did all this and found out, that the Component was installed and it is listed in the COM-Add-In's, but I can't check it.

Is it possible that the problem is because of my german version of Word? In Visio XP I get the message, that the component couldn't be loaded because there was a runtime error.

It would be great if this would work.

      Regards
        Mike

      Hi,

I just installed the client and server but does not seem to have any luck yet. Can anyone of you please explain to me how to install it (is it just the double click on the setups?) or is there a manual?

When I tried to add the knowledgeoffice menu, it tells me there is a runtime error occured during loading the COM add-in.

And how do I start the server?

      Any help is appreciated.

I am having the same problem.  The service is running (btw, I had to put in an IP address instead of localhost, the machine running uses DHCP so has a different IP every day, is there a way to configure this to not use an actual IP address?).
I followed the guidelines in the recommended post as well (i.e. set macro security to medium, uncheck truxt all addi-ins).  When I try to start eh COM add-in,  it shows  a message 'Not loaded. A runtime error occured during the loading of the COM Add-in'.
           I am running XP-SP2, Office 2003.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

           Thanks,
               Dean
