Hello Pierre,
on the applications menu you should have an application that is called Terminal, or KConsole, or Console or something similar. You should start that application, which will bring up a screen similar to a DOS screen in Windows.
There, you can use "cd" to go to the directory where you uncompressed the source files.
Additionally, if you are using KDE, you might be able to do the same by using Konqueror, going to the folder where you uncompressed the files, and then right-click and select Open terminal here...

That should do it.
