Use a personalized file as main page. The current main page, for example in italian, is full of blanked links: e.g. the "Novità" (news) section o "Notizie del giorno" (news of the day) section and others.

Do you mean something like the "homepage" in a browser?

Anything you think will be easy to implement. I'm just sayng that the current main page of a ZIM archive (displaied at startup) is full of blank sections and looks not so good. :)

Sorry, I have not been clear: the link you are referring to regard Kiwix's help page (the one you find under "Help" menu, section "help"). Instead I am saying that the Wikipedia main page (i.e. the page contained in the Zim archive and which is displaied as first page when opening the archive itself) containes broken links (see attached image), I was suggesting if Kiwix can bypass this page with a customized one, in fact I thin that simply piping links will leave a lot of blank space in the page making it not so good to look. In the customized page you could insert some guide on using Kiwix, or about license or whatever you might think it's useful.

OK, now I understand better. As Kiwix works now in a multizim context, this is not possible to set a home page for kiwix, but only per ZIM file. The idea would be to overwrite the default homepage with a new one.

They are tow questions still there:
Where/how should the user be able to (re)defined that?
Do we really need this feature?

One acceptable solution would be to do that by adding a unique tag "homepage" to a bookmark, switched on a bookmark menuitem contextual menu. This would be pretty easy to do IMO.

But I really doubt we need this feature... I need to be convinced Cristian ;)

    1) As I imagined the first time... the home page is zimfile-dependent. So perhaps is better to solve the problem at the root providing Zim files with good home pages :-).

question: where can I report this bug about zim files? The current homepage of the zim file of it.wikipedia is awful!!!!

    2) Returning to Kiwix, anyway a "custom home page" could be a good idea. Many people are accustomed to browser and may expect to have the ability to set a page in Zim archive as their homepage. So the possibility to set like in browser could be nice to have.

    1) Yes I think, this is maybe the most important point to fix :)

You can report that issue in this bug tracker, there is category "ZIM"... but even better is to propose an alternative Welcome page for the offline version on Wikipedia IT :)

    2) Yes, I will keep in mind this feature request... but I can not promise if and at which time I will implement it.

    3) The WP IT ZIM file starts to be a little bit old... I think in any case to make a new one in a few months. It would be great to list the issues and to help to make a better one for 2011.

That was my point from the beginning: an alternative Welcome page for the offline version on Wikipedia IT. Exactely that! :D... where may I start?

The best you can do, is doing it on a subpage of your WPIT personnal page. I will simply mirror afterwards. You can also do it on the kiwix wiki if you want.
