Once the openZIM format is mainstreamed into wikipedia's book creator, we are going to see customized ZIMs, example : grade 10 Chemistry, grade 8 Mathematics, a ZIM on Space, etc. At this point users will need a Kiwix that is capable of one of these:
1. Ability to load multiple ZIM files, and being able to search the indexes of both the ZIMs from the same search bar. The ZIM's need not have inter-linking and can exist separately, but Kiwix should be able to have and operate on more than one ZIM at a time. It can load one as A:, the other as B: and so on. Alternately, users could have a dropdown next to search bar to specify which ZIM they want to search.
2. Merging multiple ZIM files into one ZIM : if the first option isn't possible, users will need to have a utility that does this.
Use case : Having a 2008/09 version of Wikipedia for Schools already, we can create a ZIM in 2011 with additional articles. This will do the work of updating. So, one can run multiple ZIMs or merge the two. On this , country/regionwise addons will also be made possible. Example : current WFS selection doesn't have adequate articles on India. Indian wikipedians ca export a ZIM having the missing articles and bridge this gap easily.
1 - this is was is still to do to release 0.9
2 - this has also to be done but not for this reason... to make possible an updating system.
We can load many ZIM files now
Merging is not forseen (in that form at least).... the whole topic is
