Oh, I think I understand your problem. Type Chinese letters into Text Edit Copy the Chinese letters Paste it to KH Coder with "Control + V" Please note that you have to press "Control " not "⌘" (Command) to paste to KH Coder.

hi again, Professor, I run my data in Chinese (simplified) on my macbook, I found that I couldn't input Chinese but just English letters. I checked with my colleague who runs the software on windows, she doesn't have this problem. and we have the same setting. what should I do to fix the problem. Thank you!

I checked the system and found the exact limits. Currently, we can have no more than 900 rules in a file. And we can use no more than 725 words in a rule. Under these limits, you can still get a error message in the console window saying "DBD::mysql::db do failed: Thread stack overrun." In this case, you have to open "deps\mysql\khc.ini" and add the following line in the [mysqld] section. thread_stack=512K Also, if you get any error messages in the coding process, you have to run pre-processing again...

Now the last part, what happens when I performed the same task with "Anne.xls": When I clicked browse it took me to the folder where the file exist and there were code_1, code_2, code_3 files. I clicked code_1 and there where few names in the search entry. I clicked one of the word and it shows the results. Now I understand the problem. The problem is that I don't have any coding file. But now the question is what is coding file. How can I make coding file and what is the purpose of these files....

Hello, again unfortunately after removing the add in and reinstalling the office I still get the same error when opening the frequency list. But I think I can work with this now, when I open any khc .xlsx file from the "recent" files in excel and leave it open I can open the frequency list via khcoder no problem. If you have any other idea what it could be I will try, but this works for me too. Thank you for being patient with me!

Hello, You can try removing the "KH Coder Excel Addin" from your Excel. See procedure here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/add-or-remove-add-ins-in-excel-0af570c4-5cf3-4fa9-9b88-403625a0b460 Remove it from your Excel, restart windows, then try opening Frequency List and see what happens. Hello, unfortunaty deleting "khc.xla" did not help. When I try to open a frequency list in Excel I still get the same error message about not having enough space. But when I open the excel file via the console window (as you described above) and leave it open, the error does not appear anymore when I open another frequency list in excel.

Hello, when run "check the target file", kh coder randomly changes some of my tags from <h1> to ＜h1＞ so the brackets (and sometimes numbers) change to the japanese type. Then when I run pre-processing it does not recognise the tags anymore. I am using the program for a University project and several of my classmates have the same problem. Is there any way to prevent that from happening? Thanks!

This addin is obsolete and I believe you don’t need it. So, please try this procedure and let me know if it works: Close Excel. Thank you so much for being so patient with me and explaining it again. I followed your steps and found the file, opened it and I got the error (screenshot) I just hit OK, then it said that would stop the debugger so I hit OK again and then it opened the excel file.

Hi, Does “force pick up” functionality work for you? With this functionality, the specified character or character string is always extracted as one word. Please go to “Pre-Processing”, “Select Words to Analyze” in the menu of KH Coder. Then enter Chinese characters or character strings into “force pick up” field and click OK. Hi Dr. Koichi Higuchi, First, let me say thanks for the great tool. I am working on a project analyzing Chinese transcripts produced by second language users. Everything is working great, but I noticed that the tools is segmenting some characters together that shouldn't really be words. Is there anyway to manually separate some of these characters so they are not read as one word? On another note, I'll send a citation of the project once completed. Thanks!

Look for KH Coder in task bar and click it. You will find a console window minimized. Click the console window to make it visible. The console window should look like the attached image. I am not sure if I understood correctly what you ment , but I opened the console window, typed that link and it opened the khcoder and when I try to open the frequency list in excel I get the same error. I attached the text file I try to work with, it is very short so it should not process long. I dont think I know how to post the excel file.

No, you can't. As written in section A.5.9 of the manual: However, if any pair of words, with a distance of zero occurs in the analysis, then one of these pairs is automatically screened out of analysis, resulting in a message indicating this step Is the target file very small? "distance of zero" means that those words occur in exactly same documents. I think it happens only when the data is very small. Yes, please delete all control characters and non-printing character. You can see them with Notepad++ software. Or you can easily delete them using CLEAN function of Excel. Best,

Changing the line didn't work so I removed the two lines completely.. and suddenly pre-proccessing worked! Maybe because I installed MySQL with Homebrew this time. Okay I managed to deinstall and reinstall everything, now the mysql problem is gone. Then I inserted the 2 lines at "kh_lib/mysql_exec.pm" line 73. I couldnt find the my.ini file so I deinstalled mysql and installed the older version. Then nothing worked at all, so I deinstalled everything again and now I have MySQL 8.0.12 again but I cant open the program anymore. Can you edit your MySQL server setting? In [mysqld] section of MySQL configuration file (typically my.ini or my.inf), add or edit these lines and restart MySQL server. local_infile= 1 sql_mode= "STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION" Or you can install MySQL 5.6 and let KH Coder connect to 5.6.

Yes, I am running the source code. When I use MeCab/IPADIC, I get this error message: Failed in accessing MySQL database system. KH Coder will exit now. Oh, you are running source code of KH Coder? Not using the "automatic setup software"? If so, you have to install ChaSen or MeCab. You need IPADIC too. Then you have to setup KH Coder in "Project" -> "Settings" screen. I recommend MeCab with UTF-8 dictionary (IPADIC).
