Hi
I just upgraded my windows 8 laptop to 8.1. There is an app that runs from a client .exe file on my laptop and asks for user credentials. Suddenly this program does not accept the Auto Type entries, nor can I drag and drop the username/password. I can only copy username/password and paste it. I am using kee pass 2.24 and my laptop has the latest .net version (4.5.1).

Keepass works fine with all other browser and cmd related apps.

Could someone please advise what may be going wrong?

Most likely the other program runs with higher rights than KeePass. In this case, Windows prevents KeePass from sending data to the other application.

In order to resolve the problem, run KeePass with higher rights (by right-clicking the KeePass icon and clicking 'Run as administrator').

    Best regards,
    Dominik

Thank you very much Dominik. That worked like a charm. Will bother you with one closure question. Does that mean I must always run Keepass as an administrator? Is there a way to do so permanently so that I could simply double-click on the icon to start it and not have to remember to do it?

Yes, KeePass must run with at least the rights of the target application in order to be able to send data to it.

You can right-click the KeePass icon -> 'Properties' -> tab 'Shortcut' -> button 'Advanced' -> activate 'Run as administrator'. Now, Windows will always ask you for elevation when double-clicking the KeePass icon (this way you cannot forget the elevation).

    Best regards,
    Dominik

Does this pose any security risk? (Running KeePass as admin all the time)

Only if KeePass has a malicious plug-in, but you don't need admin rights to steal all the passwords if the plug-in runs with KeePass.

    cheers, Paul
