Hello. Please can we revisit this request https://sourceforge.net/p/keepass/feature-requests/2359/.
Instead of using the standard dialog box etc - can you please provide an option that can be typed directly into the search field.

Example:
I have my email included in an EMAIL group and also in several other social and website groups ( since we use email address for several weblogins etc ) . If I need to find my email password ( because it is a complex one created using keepass ) - I would like to search quickly in the search box - without the use of a mouse or forms or dialog boxes.

Normally, a search for the email will result in a long list of data - including groups and subgroups that contain this info ( which is often enough to make is cross eyed for a few minutes ! ) Finding the right one is often like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Instead, if we could just type something like the following into the search field:
(groupname:Email) someone@gmail.com

As a result, ideally, I would like the group name ( or subgroup name ) called EMAIL listed at the top of the list and containing the email 'someone@gmail.com'

Why isn't (Ctrl+Shift+F) Find>Find in Selected Group... a satisfactory solution?

The solution above already exists. It offers a flexible way to search within a specific group. Though I am not the developer, I doubt your feature request will survive if you can't provide a satisfactory answer to the above question.

Some alternate approaches to selecting an important subset of entries (within or across groups) or of using the password of a specific entry to login to an account:

    • Use tags to quickly access a frequently needed entry or more practically a small group of related entries. For example tag your gmail accounts 'Gmail', then use Find>Tag>Gmail to show the entries tagged 'Gmail'.
    • Use the global auto-type hotkey to login to an email account without having to find the entry manually. See https://keepass.info/help/base/autotype.html for more details.

I think the OP's point here is that the Search... field in the toolbar is not as useful as it could be for him (and probably many others) because the default (i.e. only) options for this search do not meet his needs. Yes, it is possible to open the full Find dialog and configure it the way you want, and/or save that configuration for later use - but only from this same dialog.

Perhaps a Feature Request is in order here: I'm envisioning a sort of "magic profile name", that, when it exists, is used as the options settings for toolbar searches. (BTW: Is it documented anywhere as to exactly what parameters this search uses by default?)
