Hover selection is (visually) required in order to allow executing an item using just one click (which is very important).

I understand you need to have some visual indication on hover, but I don't see why this has to change the selection in regard to keyboard controls. Would it be possible to modify the hover selection to not actually select, leaving only the visual effect?
The standard Windows list view control does not support this.
If I replace the control by a custom control in the future, I'll consider it again.
